The suspension of retaliatory tariffs for 90 days concerns countries that did not retaliate, US President Donald Trump stressed, while he increased tariffs on China, which reacted by announcing higher tariffs on imports of American products.
Speaking to reporters, the US president acknowledged that many were "a little scared" about the tariffs and overreacted, but reiterated his belief that trade deals would eventually be reached with many countries, including China.
"China wants to make a deal. They just don't know how to handle it... President Xi is a proud man... They don't know how to handle it, but they'll figure it out," Trump said.
