A child was killed and another seriously injured Thursday in Germany when they were hit and swept away by a train in the western city of Recklinghausen, authorities said.
German tabloid Bild reported online that a freight train struck and dragged the victims hundreds of meters between two stations.

"It's horrible. Children (…) of such a young age, it's horrible what happened here and one can only hope that the parents will find the strength to overcome this misery," Herbert Royle, the interior minister of the state government in North Rhine-Westphalia, told reporters. -Westphalia.

"Why, how it happened, those are questions no one can answer yet — and they wouldn't solve anything," added Mr Royle.
