The focal depth of the earthquake was located at 10,07 km. The tremor was felt mainly in the neighboring counties of Elazig and Diyarbakir, but also in the wider area, in Kahramanmaras, Erzincan, Tunceli, and Antiyaman, causing panic among the residents.

Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya, in a post on his social media account, noted that three building collapses have been reported so far in the provinces of Elazig, Malatya and Sanliurfa. He also said that emergency response teams are conducting field surveys in the area after the earthquake. "We are closely following the developments regarding the earthquake, which was also felt in neighboring provinces," said the Turkish minister.
In a statement from AFAD, it is noted that 374 calls have been made, 12 of them for help, to the emergency telephone number 112.
According to the Natural Disasters and Emergency Response Service, there are four buildings that collapsed. No loss of life reported.
The region was hit on February 6, 2023 by twin earthquakes of 7,7 and 7,6 magnitudes, centered in Kahramanmaras, Eastern Turkey, which flattened 13 provinces, over an area larger than mainland Greece. This was the worst earthquake Turkey has experienced in the last century.
Seismology professor Naji Gyorur stated that "a magnitude 6,0 earthquake was recorded in Kale / Malatya. It is located on the East Anatolian Rift. As you know, this fault was largely ruptured by the 2020 Elazig earthquake. Possibly today's earthquake is a result of the energy of the February 6, 2023 earthquakes being transferred to this fault. There is no concern."
