Traffic shock in the US: Nine children dead

Ten people were killed, including nine children, near Granville, Alabama, according to a local medical examiner who linked the accident to the effects of Tropical Storm Cloudet, which hit the area.

The vehicles were heading north on the I-65 motorway and the accident may have been caused by a water slide.

Eight of the ten, all children between the ages of 4 and 17, were riding in a vehicle at the Girls Ranch in Talapuza County, an institution that hosts children who have been abused or neglected.

A father and his 9-month-old daughter, who were riding in another car, also died while being transported to a local hospital.
