Ten people were killed, including nine children, near Granville, Alabama, according to a local medical examiner who linked the accident to the effects of Tropical Storm Cloudet, which hit the area.
The vehicles were heading north on the I-65 motorway and the accident may have been caused by a water slide.
Eight of the ten, all children between the ages of 4 and 17, were riding in a vehicle at the Girls Ranch in Talapuza County, an institution that hosts children who have been abused or neglected.
A father and his 9-month-old daughter, who were riding in another car, also died while being transported to a local hospital.
Y'all pray for the folks in Willowbrook Trailer Park off Hunter Creek Road in Northport. Most of these folks didn't have much before last night's flooding, and this is absolute carnage. #alwx @TuscaloosaCoEMA @spann @ RichardWVUA23 pic.twitter.com/ARPm2XfVih
