Following the Kerch Strait incident a few months ago, the Russians deployed a S-400 anti-aircraft missile system in Crimea as a sign of operational readiness, not just readiness.

In particular, the competent battle teams from the Southern Operations Division of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces, conducted military exercises in the Crimea, with the development of advanced S-400 missile systems, said the Press Office of the Naval Fleet Russia.

"Initially, the crews and the forces that carried out the exercise proceeded to install the S-400 missile systems in the designated area, where the military equipment and the corresponding equipment had been prepared at the battle position.

"After that, the battle crews carried out a functional check on the location of the surface-to-air missile systems, before proceeding with the operation and firing of the missiles," the press office said.

Russian forces located and destroyed a target resembling an unmanned aerial vehicle. In the next stages of the exercises, the S-400 control and firing crews will launch electronic rocket launchers against fictitious air targets, the press office said.

Russia's S-400 Triumf is the latest medium- and long-range surface-to-air missile system launched in 2007. It is designed to destroy aircraft, precision-guided missiles and ballistic missiles, and can even be used against ground installations. The S-400s are capable of targeting targets at a distance of 400 km and at an altitude of up to 30 km.
