The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson stressed once again the importance of the coronavirus vaccine with the booster dose, saying that it is the only way for the citizens to have fun "reasonably and carefully" the coming of the New Year.

Visiting a vaccination center on Wednesday morning, Mr Johnson said the goal of offering a third-dose appointment to all adults across the country by New Year would be achieved. But he noted that there are 2,4 million citizens who, although they have taken the second installment more than three months ago, have not yet arrived for the third installment.

"I'm sorry to say this, but the vast majority of people who are currently receiving intensive care in our hospitals are people who have not taken the booster dose. I have spoken to doctors who say that the numbers reach up to 90% of those in intensive care units, for those who have not taken the booster dose. "If you are not vaccinated, you are eight times more likely to end up in the hospital anyway," he said.

He added that the great progress of the vaccination program allows England not to take stricter measures against the coronavirus for the time being. "The Omicron mutation continues to cause real problems. We are seeing an increase in cases in hospitals. "But it is obviously milder than the Delta mutation and we are able to proceed the way we do."

He again called on people to have fun "with reason and attention" on New Year's Eve, taking a quick diagnostic test before meeting with friends and coming for the third dose of the vaccine. "I can not stress enough how vital it is to do the booster dose," said Boris Johnson, adding that the third dose "makes a huge difference."
