VIDEO: Barrage of powerful explosions in Kyiv

The Ukrainian capital Kyiv and "many" other Ukrainian cities were hit by shelling this morning, the Ukrainian presidency announced, cited by AFP, and advised the population to "remain in shelters."

AFP reporters in the Ukrainian capital said they heard at least five explosions and plumes of smoke rising into the air in Kyiv.

"Ukraine is under attack with missiles, we have information about hits in many cities of our country," presidential official Kirill Tymoshenko said in a Telegram post.

Several explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital and the cities of Lviv, Ternopil and Dnipro on Sunday after Moscow accused Ukraine of orchestrating the powerful blast that damaged a major bridge linking Russia to the Crimean peninsula, Reuters reported.

Ukrainian public network Suspilne reported, citing emergency services, that there were dead and wounded in Kyiv, but did not elaborate on the casualties.

"Explosions in Shevchenkivsky district - in the center of the capital," Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also noted in a post on the Telegram messaging app. "Details later."

At least two new explosions occurred in Kyiv, AFP reported, while Anadolu cited local media as saying more explosions were reported in the cities of Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipro, Lviv, Ternopil and the capital Kyiv.

Local media reported that train services on the Kyiv metro's red line had stopped operating and that all underground train stations were now operating as shelters, Anadolu added.

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry also announced that a Russian missile hit a street where security services and the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are located.

Mayor Klitschko added in a more recent message that Kiev's main roads are now blocked off by security forces, noting that the threat remains to the Ukrainian capital after an airstrike alert earlier and warned its residents to stay in shelters .

Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko also clarified that "one of the missiles landed near the Khrushchev monument on Volodymyr Street. The rescue crews have rushed."

Shocking is the video of a young girl walking in Kyiv when suddenly a rocket explodes a short distance away with the shock wave "hitting" the girl.
