The British government today officially declared a period of national mourning for the death of Queen Elizabeth, publishing "national mourning guidelines".

The document, which includes instructions for flags to be flown at half-mast, information on travel and about other public services and businesses, says mourning will continue until the end of the day of the Queen's funeral with head of state honours.

The government notes that there is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sports matches or to close entertainment venues during this period and notes that this matter is at the discretion of individual organizations.

At the same time, according to a Reuters journalist, Britain's King Charles left Balmoral Castle where other members of the royal family had gathered after the death of his mother.

A spokesman for the British Prime Minister announced that King Charles will meet with Prime Minister Liz Truss this afternoon.
