British Foreign Secretary David Lamy said on Thursday, after meeting with his American counterpart Marco Rubio at the White House, that there is now "a window" to find a "diplomatic solution" during negotiations with Iran.
"During our meeting with Secretary of State Rubio and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff on Thursday, we discussed the need for Iran to reach an agreement to avoid escalating the conflict. There is now a window in the next two weeks to reach a diplomatic solution," British Foreign Secretary Lamy said, according to a press release issued by the British embassy in Washington.
"It is time to put an end to the dramatic scenes in the Middle East and avoid a regional escalation that would benefit no one," the British Foreign Secretary continued.
"On Friday I will head to Geneva to meet with the Iranian Foreign Minister along with my French and German counterparts and the European Union," he continued, referring respectively to Jean-Noel Barrot, Johan Vandeful and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.
E3 Ministers and the head of European diplomacy will meet with the Iranian Foreign Minister and key negotiator on Iran's nuclear energy program at a time when European countries are calling for de-escalation.
Earlier yesterday, US President Donald Trump announced through a White House spokeswoman that he would decide whether the US would become involved in the war launched by Israel against Iran on the side of its ally "over the next two weeks", describing the possibility of finding a solution through negotiations with Tehran as "substantial".
