The recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria confirms and underlines the high risk for the entire region from a new earthquake and its impact on the Akioui nuclear power plant expected to be operational by October 2023, says the Cyprus Anti-Nuclear Platform.

In a statement, the platform, with members from all over Cyprus, says that it has long focused all its efforts on raising awareness among Cypriots, emphasizing the high probability of an earthquake and its effects on the Akiougios nuclear plant.

At the same time, he notes that he is in contact with members of the European Parliament in order to put pressure on the Turkish Government to consider the high risk both to its own people and to the peoples in neighboring countries and to end its plans.

The Cyprus Anti-Nuclear Platform also calls on all political parties, scientific and environmental organizations and civil society to join their efforts and put pressure on the Turkish Government to end its plans for the Akyuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

Finally, it denounces the construction of a nuclear power plant in Egypt, by the same construction company Rosatom, while expressing condolences to those who lost loved ones in the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
