During the reading of the decision, the Judge said, among other things, that the accused admitted to three charges. He also put into circulation a fake high school diploma at the Cyprus Youth Organization. He also circulated the fake high school diploma with stamps from the Ministry of Education.
A total of 13 witnesses testified in the case, while as the Court said, he is not burdened with previous convictions.
She referred to the clean criminal record and 3,5 years since the start of the case. Also, the offenses were committed approximately 30 years ago, as the Judge said. She continued by saying that the seriousness of the offenses is evident.
The Court attributes as mitigating factors the admission to the court, although not directly, the clean criminal record, the age, the period of time that was leaked, as well as an apology from a lawyer.
Continuing, the Court stated during the reading of the decision that the defendant deceived the authorities.
An aggravating factor is the fact that for over 30 years he received a salary and secured the position over his opponents.
At the same time, the Court spoke of the inability of the competent authorities to carry out a substantive inspection. Of course, this does not negate the defendant's act, the Judge said.
The offenses occurred in 1995 but the complaint was filed in 2021. He did not make a trivial mistake but was benefiting for many years, the Judge said. She added that there were no grounds for suspending the sentences.
