The Advisor to the Minister of the Interior for Immigration and Asylum was hosted at Mesimeri and Kati.

Andreas Georgiadis referred to the information received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the mass arrival of immigrants. "Given the current situation in Lebanon and Syria there seems to be reason to believe this information. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken action, is in contact with his Lebanese counterpart and has exchanged information," he said.

The Advisor was asked about the number of arrivals in the last 10 days. "From September 1 to September 26, we received a total of around 750 people. Regarding the percentage of asylum seekers in the population of Cyprus, in 2022 it was 6%. Until July this percentage was at 5.36% and in August at 5.30%".

He added that in the context of the consultation between Lebanon and Cyprus, information has been exchanged in recent days to "prevent landings. Let's catch the boat before it starts. Several such actions have been prevented by the Lebanese government and this is duly appreciated." He mentioned.
