The Veterinary Services issued an announcement regarding controls within the framework of the implementation of the Decree and the measures to combat foot-and-mouth disease.
Specifically, the Veterinary Services inform in a statement that, within the framework of the implementation of Decree K.D.P. 130/2026 and the measures to combat foot-and-mouth disease, extensive and targeted inspections have been carried out on farms, animal movement points and related activities.
To date, eight (8) administrative fines, totaling 45.000 euros, have been issued for violations of the measures provided for, and specifically for travel violations. In addition, for six (6) serious cases of violations, cases have been registered with the Police for further investigation.
The Veterinary Services are consistently and strictly implementing the current framework, with the aim of protecting livestock, ensuring animal production and limiting the spread of the virus. Controls continue at an intensive pace and all those involved are called upon to strictly comply with the provisions of the Decree and the instructions of the Competent Authority.
Based on the epidemiological data that is constantly evaluated, it appears that human activity, through movement, contact and transport, among other things, of contaminated materials, products, equipment and vehicle movement, is a determining factor in the transmission of the disease.
Therefore, it is reiterated once again that strict adherence to biosecurity measures remains a very important measure to stop the transmission of the virus.
