Self-immolation due to rejection of asylum application – Critically 24-year-old Somali

The rejection of his application for political asylum in Cyprus appears to have been the reason why a 24-year-old Somali man set himself on fire on Wednesday (18/10) at the Foreigners and Immigration Service in Larnaca.

According to information, after their protests to the officials of the Department, he took the decision to pour a bottle of gasoline on his body and light a fire.

An ambulance rushed to the scene to transport him to the Larnaca General Hospital, where it was found that he had injuries all over his body.

Latest information from the Police states that the 24-year-old is hospitalized in a critical condition.
