The Cyprus Transmission System Operator appeals to the public to limit electricity consumption between the hours of 18:00 – 22:00, in order to reduce the necessary cuts in electricity, following breakdowns in the production system.
According to an update, the DSMC is applying a rotation of consumer load cuts throughout Cyprus, the duration of the cuts is not expected to exceed 40 minutes.
As the EAC's acting press representative, Dimitris Nathanael, reported to KYPE, the nature of the damage is such that it affects areas all over Cyprus. He noted that EAC crews are already on site trying to resolve the problem.
It is recalled that according to an update from the Cyprus Transmission System Operator, at 6:03pm a technical failure occurred in the Generation System, which resulted in the loss of the AT/S 3 Generation Unit at the Vassilikos Power Station charged at 54 MW, with the consequent rejection of consumer load in various regions of Cyprus.
Another technical failure in the Production System also occurred at 5:29pm, which resulted in the loss of the AT/S 4 Production Unit at the Dekelia Power Station. According to DSMK, the loss of Production did not cause a rejection of consumer load.
In the meantime, the EAC website states that due to a technical problem, communication with the EAC Customer Service Center has been temporarily interrupted and efforts are being made to repair the damage as soon as possible.
