Decrees regarding recalls for Takata airbags will be announced today at 12 noon.
As stated yesterday by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeadis, with the issuance of the decrees on vehicle recalls on Monday, a process begins to address a problem that has been created over time and called on citizens and all those involved to cooperate in their implementation.
On Sunday afternoon, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Transport between the Minister and MPs and party representatives, following the latter's request. In his statements after the meeting, the Minister of Transport said that they discussed in detail the issue of recalls and the issue of the decrees that will be issued on Monday and informed about the entire environment in which these decrees are being issued.
Responding to a question about any alternative transportation measures for citizens who will be affected, the Minister said that public safety comes first. "This is the first and we are moving in this direction as a priority. How all of this people will be affected is something that is certainly taken into account as a second element in the equation," he said.
Asked how many cars are expected to be affected by Monday's orders, he said that in total there are about 82.000 cars that have been identified as being recalled due to Takata airbags. "These vehicles need to go to the dealers, have the recall done. That's the first thing," he said, noting that how all the people with these vehicles are affected is something that "we will manage in the orders." He added that "how they will be affected is something that will be finalized tomorrow before the press conference."
Responding to a question about whether the Police will carry out checks to implement the decrees, he said that the Police, where needed, "are always on the streets, checking, doing what they have to do."
