Excavations are being carried out in five locations in the occupied and free areas, in order to locate missing Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, according to the Investigative Committee for the Missing Persons (DIA). So far this year, 60 excavations have been carried out and bones corresponding to 14 individuals have been found.

As reported to the KYPE by the office of the Deputy Representative to the DEA, there are currently five excavations in progress and that teams are carrying out excavations in Assia, Aloa, Lapithos, Lefkoniko and Peristerona.

At the same time, according to the same information, other excavations are expected to begin in the coming days, especially in a military area in Kyrenia, and permission is expected from the occupying authorities, as is the procedure.

As mentioned in KYPE, there is information about the specific area in Kyrenia where two excavations have already been carried out near the site, without findings. "Now we want to go to another point close to the previous ones," he emphasized.

It was clarified that over time it is very difficult to identify the points and from the informants and witnesses "that is why we sometimes see that there is something in one place, but more than one place needs to be excavated to identify the right".

Excavation at this particular site will involve more than one person, he said, but not a large number.

This year, 60 potential sites have been excavated and bones corresponding to 14 individuals have so far been identified and the identification process has begun at the Anthropological Laboratory.

The bones were found in Kyrenia, Gerolakkos, Gypsos, Kioneli, Asomatos and Aloa.
