EBU warns Israel not to host next year
A report by the Spanish-language Formula TV channel states that the EBU has warned the Israeli government that the Eurovision 2019 song contest could be moved to Cyprus or Austria if countries boycott the contest next year.
According to the online edition of the newspaper "Phileleftheros", the news is confirmed by the Israeli media, which report that the EBU warned the national Israeli broadcaster KAN that there is a possibility that Israel will not host the competition next year.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that several countries have contacted the EBU to express their frustration with the possible host city of the next competition (Jerusalem), including Ireland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Iceland.
Many countries have told the EBU that they are under strong political pressure and therefore cannot participate in the next song contest if it takes place in Jerusalem due to the political conflict with Palestine.
Formula TV reports that the EBU considers Cyprus, which won second place with Eleni Foureira, but also Austria as alternatives to host the next Eurovision.
