A written statement was issued by the Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic regarding the video that has been circulating on the internet for the last 24 hours.

"Because it saw the light of day of the video, which, unfortunately, leaves false impressions about the respect that the President of the Republic has for journalists and the media, we would like to clarify the following:
The President of the Republic came to an event venue and, after being approached by the TV crews, asked them, off the record, not to be asked about the Al Jazeera video, and the reason was because he did not have the opportunity until that time to see it.
Therefore, before the questions from the journalists started, the President stated that he would not answer the specific question if asked since he did not have his own opinion about the video, stating this with the specific expression which he used jokingly.
"The President of the Republic respects and honors the journalists, the media, as well as their function", the statement states.
