The report of the American experts who were called by the government to investigate the causes of the deadly fire in mountainous Limassol was made public.
According to their findings, the fire appears to have started from a cigarette butt.
The point of ignition of the fire was limited to an area of 30 by 30 centimeters at the edge of the Mallia - Arsos road. At this point, a partially burned cigarette butt and a completely burned cigarette butt were found.
The 2 cigarette butts were collected by investigators and recorded as evidence.
The material was handed over to the authorities for further investigation. At the same time, the investigation into the fire demonstrated with absolute clarity both the severity of the spread and the cause of the outbreak. The Americans report that the conditions that day were favorable for the ignition of fires with a probability of 100%.
Indicative of the rapid spread is that the fire, according to the Americans, was expanding 60 to 63 meters per minute, multiplying the intensity and danger. Within half an hour, the fire had burned 20 thousand square meters and the flames had invaded the settlement of Mallia.
