The Larnaca District Court today issued an eight-day detention order against a 27-year-old man, to facilitate Police investigations into an ongoing case of attempted murder of a security guard and arson of four vehicles, offenses that were committed on August 14 in Pyla.
According to the Police, the arrested person is a third-country national who resides in a village in the Paphos district, and investigators in the case conducted searches yesterday at a home, vehicles and premises in the city.
The 27-year-old appeared before the Larnaca District Court today, which issued a detention order against him for eight days.
It is recalled that a 19-year-old European citizen was arrested in the same case, who on August 22 was placed under eight-day detention as a suspect for offenses related to conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted murder, arson, illegal possession of a firearm and explosives, vehicle theft and receiving stolen goods.
According to the facts of the case, at around 4 am on August 14, four cars were set on fire at a car rental office located on the coastal road of Pyla.
From the examinations carried out by members of the Larnaca Police and the Larnaca Fire Department who went to the area, it became apparent that two people in a car approached the scene and set fire to the vehicles after covering them with flammable material.
The security guard at the venue reported to the Police that he heard a number of gunshots but without any injuries.
It is noted that the investigators of the case received closed-circuit surveillance footage from the area which appears to have recorded the movements of the perpetrators.
The case is being investigated by the Larnaca Police Department.
