The coldest winter night to date will be tonight, according to the Meteorological Department.

Specifically, the temperature will drop to around 6 degrees inland, around 10 on the coast and to 1 degree in the higher mountains, where frost will form.

At the same time, in the afternoon the weather will be generally cloudy and there will be rain and local thunderstorms in which hail is likely to occur.

Snowfall is expected from time to time on the highest peaks of Troodos. The winds will blow southwest to west, 3 to 4 Beaufort.

In a storm the winds can change and intensify to 5 to 6 Beaufort.

Tonight the weather will gradually become mostly clear, with locally increased clouds at intervals, but on the coasts, mainly in the west and north, isolated rains or thunderstorms are expected.

Intense bad weather in sight 

According to forecast models now, new bad weather is expected to affect Cyprus on Sunday, although it is still too early and may not reach the island with the apparent intensity.

If the low barometric pressure in Cyprus finally reaches this intensity, it is expected to give rains and generally strong weather phenomena.

In fact, according to information, it is not excluded that in bad weather a name will be given for the first time.

The weather in detail

Tomorrow, periods of sunshine will alternate with cloudy skies, while at noon and in the afternoon isolated rains or thunderstorms are expected. Snowfall is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos. The winds will initially blow northwesterly, 3 beauforts to change to southwesterly to moderate, 4 beauforts. The sea will be a little turbulent. The temperature will rise to 19 degrees inland and on the coast and to 7 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Friday, periods of sunshine will alternate with cloudy skies while isolated rains or thunderstorms are expected in the morning on the beaches but from noon onwards the effects will extend to other areas. Transient snowfall is expected in the higher mountains.

On Saturday the weather will be mostly clear with locally increased clouds but at night the weather will become partly cloudy and temporarily cloudy, with local rains or thunderstorms mainly on the beaches while in the higher mountains it is likely to snow.

On Sunday the weather will be unstable with rains, storms and snowfall in the mountains while the area will be affected by strong southwest current. The temperature will drop slightly on Friday to remain at the same levels for the season on Saturday and Sunday.
