The Police rejects the cover-up of the sexual harassment of a student in a school in Nicosia, as reported by the MP of the DIPA, Alekos Tryfonidis, through the broadcast of Sigma, Mesimeri and Kati.

Asked to comment on statements by Mr. Tryfonidis regarding the beating of students by their classmates at a Nicosia school, that he had reported sexual harassment last year, at the same school, to a female student in the classroom by extracurricular and intracurricular activities and that the matter "ended up in a soft way" , the Police spokesperson, Christos Andreou, told KYPE that this case was reported to the Police on May 17, 2022 involving three minors, the complainant and two others.

He added that the case was investigated immediately and after its investigation was completed it was sent to the Legal Service for study and instructions in a short period of time.

The offense at the basis of the investigation was indecent assault, Mr. Andreou said.

On 4/7/2022, he continued, instructions were given by the Legal Service, due to the age of the accused and the fact that they did not employ the Police again, to be observed by the Police Director, in accordance with the provisions of law 55 (I)/ 2001 as it happened.

It is noted that this law concerns the establishment of a criminal justice system friendly to children who are in conflict with the law.

Further, instructions were given that the specific case should remain pending for a year, Mr. Andreou said. The time expired on 4/7/2023 when the case was classified.
