"It seems that some have decided not to create problems inside the stadiums and try to create outside the stadiums," Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis said on Wednesday, adding that "the Police are not afraid to police a match."
Mr. Arnaoutis was speaking after the end of the meeting that took place on Wednesday at the Ministry of Justice, in which the Ministers of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, and Labor, Yiannis Panagiotou, participated, regarding the escalation of attacks against food distributors.
Answering a question about whether he is satisfied with the measures taken by the Police at the APOEL - Anorthosis football match, the Chief of Police said that the measures taken mainly concerned security inside the stadium, adding that measures had also been taken outside the stadium.
"From what we see lately, with the penalties imposed by the KOP Judicial Committee, it seems that some have decided not to create problems inside the stadiums and try to create outside the stadiums," he pointed out, adding that "actions are being taken to ascertain what happened and we will take our measures".
Asked to answer a question about rumors that other things were decided at the meeting for the specific match and others were made afterwards, the Chief of Police said that he has no comment on them, noting that "when the time comes, we will talk."
Referring to the upcoming match between Apollon and APOEL, which will be held on Saturday in Limassol, Mr. Arnaoutis said that "the Police are not afraid to police a match".
"The Limassol Police Department had some suggestions. Police HQ has already decided that we will police the match under the circumstances. There was nothing that should have caused us not to police the match and we will proceed with that," he concluded.
