The renewal of the vehicle registration license for 2025 starts today.
According to the Department of Road Transport (DTO), the last day to renew will be Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at midnight.
Besides, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeadis told KYPE on Saturday that the Ministry is in the process of preparing decrees in relation to vehicle recalls after the issue that arose with the problematic Takata airbags, stating that the decrees will be sent to the Legal Service for legal technical review.
Regarding the technical inspection (MOT) and renewal of vehicle registrations, the Minister of Transport said that for the vehicles that have been informed through the TOM website that they are subject to recall (such as Mazda Demio, Honda and others), no an obstacle has been placed in the implementation of the MOT, as it has not yet been decided how to handle them.
He said, however, that there is another category of cars that are being recalled, which are of European origin and vehicles for which dealers have repeatedly sent notices to the owners of these vehicles to come and do their recalls and have ignored these letters. According to the Minister, these vehicles will be able to renew their registration once they finish the recall.
As stated in a TOM announcement, traffic licenses can be renewed for a period of three, six, nine and twelve months. Traffic permits will be renewed until midnight on Tuesday 11.3.2025 without charge. For renewals that will be made after Tuesday 11.3.2025, the sum of 10 euros and an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the traffic license corresponding to the amount due for the current year is imposed as a charge.
For the renewal of the license there must be a certificate of suitability and insurance.
The TOM advises the public to take care of the renewal of their vehicle registration in time and in any case, not to wait until the last few days, in order to avoid possible overloading of the system which may cause inconvenience.
It is reminded that those who had renewed their vehicle registration license for the year 2024 but do not intend to renew it for the year 2025 should submit a notice to the TOM to immobilize the vehicle.
The immobilization is also done online on the TOM (Road Transport Department (https://rtd.mcw.gov.cy)) website.
Otherwise, the obligation to pay the amount corresponding to the traffic fee continues to exist. Vehicles that have not had their license renewed for the year 2024 and have not been declared immobilized will be deleted from the TOM register if the amount due for the year 2024 is not paid and their license renewed for 2025 by midnight of Tuesday 11.3.2025.
