The sender of the threatening e-mail sent to schools in Cyprus on May 17 appears to have obtained online services from a company in Switzerland, Police Spokesman Christos Andreou told KYPE.

This resulted from the response given to the Cypriot authorities by the Russian authorities, with the Cypriot Police having already requested information from the specific company in Switzerland and awaiting a response.

Today, moreover, an identical electronic message was sent en masse to schools in Attica in Greece, with the Greek authorities and the Cypriot Police in contact.

In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Andreou explained how the Swiss company came to be involved in the case. As he said, Russia, which was questioned by the Cypriot authorities as the address of the sender of the messages ended with the Russian code ru, replied that the provider, which offers certain online services, was in Switzerland.

Therefore, the Police has sent a new request to Switzerland and is awaiting its response regarding the details of the sender of the messages.

This does not mean, he clarified, that the message was sent from Switzerland because the ISP is located in that country. The message, he added, could have been sent from any country.

As Mr. Andreou said, Europol responded from the first day that an e-mail identical in content was sent to other European countries in the last period of time, either to schools or malls.

In the meantime, today, the Greek police headquarters issued a statement about mass emails that were sent this morning to a large number of schools in Attica, with identical content to the one sent in Cyprus and with the threat of placing cotton wool in the schools.

"We contacted the Greek authorities, it seems that the address again ends with ru but with a different first part of the email address, with an identical message, with bomb threats and therefore we are in contact with the Greek authorities", he concluded in his statements to KYPE Mr. Andreou.
