The Police continue to be on full alert, its press spokesman, Byron Byronos, told CNA, noting that they are continuing their operational plan regarding preventive measures, which extend to land and sea. "We are on constant alert," he noted.
Asked about the preparedness and measures taken by the Police, Mr. Byronos said that the Police continues to be in full operational readiness, with reinforcement of existing security measures in the Republic's critical infrastructure and in other areas considered high risk.
"The measures are also extended to the maritime areas of the Republic of Cyprus. They are preventive in nature, with the aim of preventing any threat. There is close cooperation with all state services, with the authorities of the British Bases and with other cooperating services, with the main priority being the protection of citizens and ensuring public safety," he added.
Responding to a question regarding the telephone numbers and the way the public can communicate with the Police, Mr. Byronos stated that they are posted and "112 and 199 are to be used in cases where lives are at risk. The public can also call 1460 in case they see that another telephone line that exists is not responding," he noted.
When asked if there is a police force in the Akrotiri area, Mr. Byronos said that there are patrols in the area, but the actions are carried out in collaboration with other services, such as Civil Defense.
