The District Court of Famagusta sentenced on 3/3/22, 40 years and 29 years from Avgorou to a fine of 7500 euros each after finding them guilty in a case of Conspiracy to commit a crime, conduct and provide electronic betting services in the Republic online. ON LINE CASINO, provision of betting services in violation of the terms of the license of the establishment and intentional obstruction of a law enforcement body during the legal execution of its duty.
The events of the case took place on 15/11/18 in the framework of a coordinated operation of the Office for Combating Illegal Betting of the Police Headquarters, the Famagusta Police Station and the Xylofagos Police Station, in a betting agency in Avgorou.
As part of the operation, electronic equipment and a sum of money were confiscated, which were related to the crimes under investigation. The two defendants were the owner of the premises who was an authorized representative with a license to conduct bets and the person in charge of the premises at the time of the investigation who did not have a license of an authorized representative to conduct bets.
It should be noted that in the context of the investigation, the person in charge of the premises at the time in question had been arrested for the spontaneous offense of obstructing a law enforcement body during the lawful performance of his duty. The case was investigated by the Xylofagos Police Station.
