The weather will be winter again on Saturday, as a cold gas mass is expected to affect Cyprus.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the weather will initially be mostly clear, with locally increased clouds but gradually it will become partly cloudy and locally cloudy with isolated rains, mainly in the southern half of the island.

Snowfall is expected locally in the mountains.

The same scenario is expected until Monday.

The temperature will drop on Saturday and a further slight drop on Sunday, mainly in the mountains and inland, to fluctuate significantly below the average climatic values.

The weather in detail

In the afternoon the weather will be partly cloudy and temporarily cloudy in places, while locally light rains are expected and in the higher mountains local light snowfall. The winds will blow southwest to northwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 beauforts and on the leeward coast to strong, 4 to 5 beauforts. The sea will be a little turbulent in the leeward and up to a little turbulent on the rest of the coast.

Tonight, temporarily increased clouds are expected to give isolated light rains and in the higher mountains local light snowfall. The winds will blow mainly westerly to northwesterly, initially light to moderate, 3 to 4 beauforts, but later weak, up to 3 beauforts. The sea will gradually become a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 4 degrees inland, around 6 on the south and east coasts, around 9 on the rest of the coast and around zero in the higher mountains. Locally, in the mountains, frost will form.

Tomorrow, periods of sunshine will alternate with cloudy skies while, mainly from noon onwards, local rains are expected, mostly in the mountains and in the eastern half of the island. Snowfall or sleet is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos. The winds will blow westerly to northwesterly and in the eastern half of the island gradually variable, in the morning weak, up to 3 beauforts and in the afternoon up to moderate, 3 to 4 beauforts. The sea will be a little turbulent. The temperature will rise to around 17 degrees inland and on the coast and around 8 degrees in the higher mountains.
