A 24-year-old man was arrested by the Police, as part of police investigations into a new case of possession of material depicting the sexual abuse of a minor, which is being investigated by the Electronic Crime Sub-Directorate.
A statement from the Police Communications Branch states that the investigation into the case began following information received by the Police through Europol, which indicated that a user of an online application account uploaded a video file of child sexual abuse to the application.
Examinations by members of the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate followed, from which the details of the 24-year-old suspect were verified, against whom a court warrant was issued, pursuant to which he was arrested by members of the Police, shortly before noon on Sunday. A mobile phone was found in his possession, which was seized for forensic examination.
The 24-year-old was taken into custody, with the Police investigating a case of possession and gaining access to child pornography material, it is reported.
