A 26-year-old man was detained for illegal stay in the territory of the Republic.
According to Paphos Assistant Police Director Michalis Ioannou, members of the Foreigners and Immigration Service located and arrested a 26-year-old man in Paphos on Monday for the self-inflicted crime of illegal stay in the Republic.
Further investigations by the Police revealed that this person arrived illegally in the Republic through the occupied territories, on an unknown date, in the year 2019. On 15.5.19 he applied for political asylum. On 22.11.20 the request was rejected and his request to reopen his file was subsequently requested, a request which was also rejected on 10.8.21.
On 13.10.21 he was informed about the above decision of the Asylum Service and therefore from 13.10.21, the 26-year-old remains illegally in the territory of the Republic as he did not file an appeal before the Immigration Officer.
The 26-year-old was taken to the police detention center of the central police station and was taken into custody.
According to the Police, efforts will be made to deport him.
