The Police in Limassol handcuffed two people yesterday afternoon, who allegedly started a fire in an area of ​​the state forest of Trooditissa. They claim they tried to light a hookah.

According to the Police, yesterday at 6 pm information was given to the Platron Police Station, that near the picnic area in Trooditissa, two persons started a fire in a state forest.

Members of the Police went to the area where they found two persons, aged 22 and 21, in possession of hookahs, charcoal and lighters.

According to testimony that the members of the Police have in front of them, the arrested were seen lighting a small fire with wood in a ravine with wild vegetation in a state forest, which they, however, extinguished as soon as they were noticed.

When interrogated, the suspects stated that they went to the scene with the intention of smoking hookah and that they lit the fire with the intention of igniting the coals of the hookah, since, as they claimed, the gas lighter they had with them was not working.

A warrant of arrest was issued against them and they were arrested for offenses involving, among other things, starting a fire in a state forest. In the morning they are expected to be brought before the District Court of Limassol for the issuance of a detention order. The scene was cordoned off and investigations are ongoing.
