A 16-year-old young man underwent surgery after being injured in the hand on Thursday after a firecracker exploded in a village in the Larnaca district.
A statement from the Police Communications Branch states that "at around 4.30 yesterday afternoon, while the 16-year-old was with other young people in the church yard, in a village in the Larnaca district, under circumstances that are being investigated, an improvised firecracker exploded."
The 16-year-old was injured in the explosion "who was initially transferred to Larnaca General Hospital, where it was determined that he suffered a serious injury to the little finger of his left hand."
The young man was then taken to a private hospital in Nicosia where, according to a representative of the Larnaca Police Department, he underwent surgery and his health condition is out of danger.
The Aradippou Police Station is investigating the case.
