No vaccination history of 85% of patients admitted to the Referral Hospital

Eighty-five percent of coronavirus patients treated at the Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as a Referral Hospital, have no history of vaccination, Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the Larnaca-Famagusta Hospitals, told KYPE.

He added that "today at the General Hospital of Famagusta 50 patients are being treated, 11 of which in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as they need closer monitoring. The average age of the people being treated is 69 years old, the youngest patient is 31 years old and the oldest is 93 both without a history of vaccination ".

He noted that "85% of patients admitted to the Referral Hospital have not received the coronavirus vaccine. The Larnaca General Hospital is currently treating 29 patients with Covid-19, of which 4 in MAF conditions "

The Eden Rehabilitation Center "hosts 98 people positive for the coronavirus, while 31 patients are treated in the Post Covid ward. "Today, Friday, people who were positive for the coronavirus are expected to be discharged, who after ten days, according to the protocol, will be released, as well as patients who were treated in the Post Covid ward".

In a relevant question, Mrs. Hatzigianni replied that "there seems to be a stabilization in the admissions of patients with coronavirus to the Reference Hospital. The situation is manageable, despite the fatigue of the staff who continue to work with great zeal ".

He described the period as "a crucial crossroads for the coronavirus course", as although cases in the community have decreased and patient care remains stable, the disease is still an unpleasant condition, with the Covid-19 to still be among us. At the same time we do not know how the virus will evolve, there may be new variants, it may even mutate, but vaccination seems to be a weapon in the quiver of doctors and scientists, saving people from death, not only in Cyprus but and global ".

According to Ms. Hatzigianni "vaccination reduces both morbidity and mortality. "At the same time, there are new and improved treatments that make it easier for doctors to treat patients and possibly lead to a way out of the pandemic." He also noted that "the vaccination of the public and the faithful observance of the measures by the people, can protect everyone".

He added that "Cyprus is considered a privileged country since, in addition to vaccination, it has many innovative treatments for the treatment of coronavirus and this must be used properly by scientists and doctors, always for the benefit of our fellow human beings."

Regarding the vaccinations in the free province of Famagusta, Mrs. Hatzigianni said that "they continue at the same pace, since every day they go to the Vaccination Centers to receive the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dose of the vaccine, about 400 people. The vaccination of children aged 5-11 continues as intensively, since about 70-80 children go for the vaccine every week ".
