A minor, aged 16, was arrested to facilitate Police interrogations regarding an ongoing case of robbery, assault with intent to steal, theft, assault causing actual bodily harm, stabbing and receiving stolen property, which was committed early today on Tasos Mitsopoulos Avenue in Larnaca.
A statement from the Police Communications Branch states that at around 01.30 in the morning of Monday, June 16, a 24-year-old man, who works as a waiter in a restaurant in Larnaca, reported that while he was riding his electric scooter home, he was attacked by two young men who beat him on various parts of his body and stole a backpack.
"In the backpack was the sum of 500 euros, headphones, an Afghan identity card and receipts from the restaurant where he works," it added.
According to the complaint, "the perpetrators also attempted to steal his mobile phone without succeeding because he reacted and the young men fled on foot. The perpetrators are described as young and possibly foreign."
From the attack, "the 24-year-old suffered visible abrasions and was transferred to Larnaca General Hospital where, after receiving medical treatment, he was subsequently discharged."
It is noted that "at around 02.30 this morning, members of the Larnaca Regional Police Department spotted a vehicle on Agias Elenis Street driven by a 16-year-old foreign minor. An inspection revealed that the minor was driving the car without a driver's license and without insurance."
A search of the vehicle followed, "and a metal knife was found as well as restaurant receipts with the details of the 24-year-old foreign national who complained."
The minor "was arrested for flagrant offenses and taken into custody, while tomorrow she is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court for the issuance of a detention order."
The Police are conducting investigations and examinations in order to identify the remaining perpetrators of the attack against the 24-year-old.
