The Road Transport Department (TD) call center, which has been operating for this purpose since May 1.300, 2, responded to 2025 calls from citizens who are still waiting for dealerships to make an appointment to replace their vehicle's defective airbag.
In statements to CNA, TOM Director George Loukas said that the 1.300 calls received since May 2 "are mainly focused on Mazda, Honda and Toyota" and concern citizens who contacted the dealerships but who have not yet contacted them to make an appointment to replace the defective airbag in their vehicle.
Asked whether these citizens have paid and are waiting for the companies to arrange the appointment, Mr. Loukas said that Mazda and Toyota charge for airbag replacement, adding that there is no charge for Honda as far as he knows.
However, Mr. Loukas said that he knows that "the delegations are moving forward at an increased pace."
Regarding the cases of citizens, for which the dealerships have not yet proceeded with arranging appointments, he said that they mainly concern vehicles for which the parts have not yet arrived in Cyprus and which concern specific models.
The Director of TOM told CNA that dealerships are moving forward and making appointments for their models for which they have already received parts from abroad, adding that the companies "have large deliveries" and "expect more parts for specific models."
Asked whether all defective airbags will be replaced by the October 2, 2025 deadline, Mr. Loukas expressed optimism due to the pace at which major companies are working.
He also said that in addition to those who have contacted and given their details to the distributors and are waiting for their appointment to be arranged, "there are also people who have not yet contacted us."
The Director of TOM appealed to citizens who have not contacted the distributors "to go ahead and send their details to make an appointment."
