Cyprus seeks close cooperation with Lebanon, to stop migration flows.
As reported in the Morning Itinerary, the Minister of the Interior Constantinos Ioannou has proposed to his Lebanese counterpart to give free boats and equipment, to train the country's officials and to conduct joint patrols.
He also said that an update is expected on the measures taken, after the information that hundreds of refugees from Syria are preparing to leave for Cyprus.
The Lebanese authorities, Mr. Ioannou said, indicated that they would take up the matter, but he noted that there are restrictions, due to the unstable situation prevailing in the neighboring country.
He also pointed out that the refugees from Syria living in Lebanon amount to two and a half million, warning that if the country collapses there will be a big problem with the movement of refugees to Cyprus and Europe.
