Yesterday's cases of coronavirus in Cyprus have caused great upset and concern since they exceeded 700, while another fellow citizen lost his life.

Invited to the First Broadcast of Radio Proto, Dr. Maria Koliou referred to both the high number of cases and the possibility of imposing new measures.

Initially, he stressed that most cases arose because more samples are being taken.

At the same time, he said: "What is negative is that the rate of positivity has increased, the activity of the virus in the community is very high, therefore the large number of cases is justified."

"It does not mean that we identify all the positive incidents, but it is a very representative indicator of what is happening in the community."

He then referred to rapid tests and the removal of pcr verification. "The reason that rapid tests will no longer be confirmed is because almost everything is confirmed. The efficiency rate of rapid tests is 98%. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control also accepts the rapid test for coronavirus control ".

"The weak point of the health system is the intubated ones, they should not increase in any case," he stressed.

At the same time, regarding the possibility of new measures, Dr. Koliou said: "In the next 2-3 days, some decisions are expected to be discussed. If the number of cases is launched, there may be measures before the New Year. "What we need to see is not the cases but the intubations."
