Dr. Koliou: If we did a lockdown before, today we would like a third

The suggestion of the epidemiologists in the meeting with the President of the Republic that the measures should be tightened was almost universal, said Professor Maria Koliou in the afternoon on OMEGA and on the show AIXMES.

Referring to the meeting with the President, Ms. Koliou pointed out that almost all the members of the group stood by the fact that in some way the movements must be further restricted. However, as he said, it is up to the Government to decide.

Specifically, Mrs. Koliou pointed out:

For the meeting with the President of the Republic

The President is fully aware that things are going well. All the decisions and suggestions of the group are made after we saw that the president was quite worried about where things were going and wanted a good solution.

Both the President and the Minister want to put an end to it as soon as possible. We may not have many options anymore from the most stringent measures to clear the virus and an end must be given.

In fact, in some way, the movement of citizens should be further restricted.

The vast majority was in favor of tightening the measures. From there on, the Government will decide.

In relation to the measures and if mistakes were made:

If we leave things as they are now we will have worse results because we will have increased admissions to the intensive care unit. We do not want to go so far as to choose who will live and who will die.

There are places in the intensive care unit but if we reach the critical point then the quality of care will begin to decline.

In connection with the preparation in the summer for the second wave

I can not understand why something must have gone wrong.

The pandemic is unprecedented and we are seeing how many thousands are dying in some countries, which have huge study centers. Why do we have to deal with mistakes?

About whether we could go to Lockdown from the beginning of this wave
When we make some suggestions as a team, we also rely on what the international organizations suggest.

And it was clear that we should not favor lockdowns so as not to paralyze society.

Many efforts are being made with vaccines. 75% have already been vaccinated with the first installment of the residents in the nursing homes. They are now targeting those over the age of 80, who are the ones who supply hospitals and intensive care units and are the ones who die most often.

If we did at the beginning of the second wave of lockdown today we would need a third.

For schools

When it comes to spreading the virus so much and you want to stop it, schools should be closed as well. But the issue is not simple. One must take care of the children.
