Yesterday, the Scientific Advisory Group on the issue of Gymnasiums met extraordinarily, after the protest of the Organized Parents outside the Presidential Palace.

Invited to the Front Page, Dr. Maria Koliou stated that today the Council of Ministers will study the suggestions of the Scientific Group.

The issues that were taken into account for their suggestions according to her are the epidemiological picture of the country, the psychological burden on children, the way of teaching that in no way replaces lifelong learning and the views of educational institutions (teachers and parents ).

"All this was taken into account and our suggestions were given which will be evaluated," he said.

He further added: "We have not discussed anything further about the measures, except for the schools, the rest may be discussed over the weekend. The epidemiological picture does not allow for further relaxation. "Focus is a very serious risk factor, we ask citizens to adhere to the protocols so that we do not have a further burden".

He then referred to Limassol and the percentage of positivity, which according to Dr. Koliou increased again, "this is why we are worried about the situation. "There is a risk of having an outbreak of cases, as well as an increase in intubations."

"We are not talking about special measures in Limassol but they should know that there is always this possibility," he said.

Speaking about vaccination, he stressed, "We rely too much on the vaccination coverage of our population to liberalize other sectors of the economy, as well as tourism that we want to open soon."

In conclusion, he said "depending on our behavior as citizens, there may be an explosion since many sectors of the economy have opened, mainly catering, and it is something that worries us."
