About two hectares of reeds, trees and wild vegetation were consumed by a fire that broke out shortly after one in the afternoon despite the Larnaca salt marsh.

In a post on the "X" platform, Andreas Kettis, press representative of the Fire Service, states that the fire, despite the Larnaca salt marsh, "is manageable and the Fire Service is proceeding with final extinguishing and containment of the fire".

He adds that the fire "conquered a total area of ​​about two hectares and there is a serious risk of rekindling due to the winds blowing in the area and the dense wild vegetation. There is increased readiness to deal with them."

Five vehicles from Larnaca Fire Stations and one from EMAK, two vehicles from the Department of Forestry as well as a tanker and an excavator from the Municipality of Larnaca tried to extinguish the fire.

Also, the Larnaca Provincial Administration strengthened firefighting efforts with excavators, while a firefighting aircraft was also used.

Members of the Civil Defense, the Police and a group from the organized volunteer group Support cy went to the area.

It is recalled that according to Mr. Ketti's post, there are buildings and residences in the area and an effort was made to protect them from the ground forces, while personnel who were off duty were recalled.

It is noted that the causes of the fire are being investigated in cooperation with the Police.
