As part of its actions to prevent fatal and serious road collisions, the Police continues its intensive checks to identify and remove from the road network drivers who are under the influence of alcohol.
In the last three days, members of the Police made a total of 74 complaints about driving under the influence of alcohol.
Among the complaints, a 40-year-old complaint can be found on the evening of January 5. Around 8:40 p.m., the car driven by the 152-year-old was stopped by members of the Ulam for Road Accident Prevention, after he was driving on a highway in the province of Larnaca, at a speed of 100 kilometers instead of 47. The driver was subjected to a preliminary alcohol test, with a reading of 22μg % instead of XNUMXμg%, while it did not give a satisfactory sample for a final alcohol test.
The 40-year-old was accused in writing and today he is expected to appear before the Court, for the immediate registration of a case against him.
In the last three days, however, we had two road collisions, caused by driving under the influence of alcohol, in the provinces of Paphos and Larnaca. In both cases, the collision was head-on, while drivers involved in them tested positive for alcohol.
In particular, the final reading of the breathalyzer for a 23-year-old driver in the province of Paphos was 39μg% instead of 9μg%, while for a 21-year-old driver in the province of Larnaca, it was 100μg% instead of 9μg%.
From the collision in Paphos, three people were injured, who are being treated at the Paphos General Hospital, while from the collision in Larnaca, the driver of one vehicle was slightly injured.
