Improving air connectivity is important for Cyprus, says the Famagusta Chamber, on the occasion of the Cyprus initiative, which together with seven other European Union member states is signing a declaration to improve air connectivity in Europe.

The Famagusta Chamber in a statement, welcomes the Cyprus initiative developed in the EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousos, saying that it is "very important for our country" and relies on good air connectivity to attract tourists.

Finding solutions, according to the Chamber of Famagusta, in the field of air connectivity is more necessary today, where due to the effects of the pandemic, air traffic has decreased. According to the data submitted by Mr. Karousos, the number of passengers decreased by 68% in 2021, compared to 2019, which makes air connectivity very important for tourism.

Also, the Chamber of Famagusta considers that the settlement of this issue will help Cyprus in the problem of seasonality, since in the winter months the flights are minimal, if not few, to and from European destinations, while most of the time the ticket prices are high.

It is important, points out the Famagusta EBE, that The Cyprus initiative is supported by 11 countries - EU members. The Cyprus initiative focuses on the connectivity problems faced by countries in the EU periphery due to the lack of connections, which creates price increases and limited options.

The aim of the initiative is to create more systematic tools, with in-depth planning over three years, to support connectivity between all EU countries, especially the most remote ones, as part of the effort to move to a green economy, the Famagusta Chamber said in a statement.
