A sixty-one-year-old foreigner was injured yesterday during his tour of the Avaka canyon.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, at 14:15 yesterday, information was given to the Pegeia police station by a 57-year-old foreign tourist that while he was hiking in the Avakas gorge with his 69-year-old female friend, the latter lost his his balance fell on rocks and it was impossible to move.

Mr. Nikolaou told KYPE, members of the Pegeia police station, the Fire Service and rescuers from the ambulance service went to the place. Around 15:00, at a distance of four kilometers from their starting point, they spotted the 69-year-old.

He was safely transported to the ambulance that arrived at the scene and then to the Paphos Hospital. As found by the doctor on duty, the 69-year-old suffered a wound to his right leg, he was given first aid and then discharged.
