The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces the completion of the process of receiving and installing 80 passport control kiosks at Larnaca and Paphos airports (Boarder Xpress Kiosks).

For the implementation of the project "Installation of passport control kiosks at Larnaca and Paphos airports-CY / 2019 / ISF / SO2.NO3.1" a Grant Agreement was signed on 12 August 2019 between the European Fund Unit of the Ministry of Interior which is the Responsible Authority for Ministry of Internal Security and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works as the Final Beneficiary. The budget of the project is € 1.641.934 and the duration of the project is 51,5 months from 14.3.2018-30.6.2022.

The project is co-financed 75% by the Internal Security Fund and 25% by the Republic of Cyprus.

The total budget for the realization of the project is € 3.017.920. The project budget includes the contribution from Hermes Airports Ltd.

The aim of the project is to contribute to ensuring a high level of security in the European Union, while facilitating legal movement, through a uniform and high level of control at the external borders.

Through the above passport control kiosks, passport control of incoming and outgoing passengers at airports, coming from countries of the European Union, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area is carried out. This passport control with the use of all relevant databases, in addition to the fact that it increases the security of our external borders, also contributes to the reduction of waiting time for incoming and outgoing passengers, especially during periods of increased air traffic.
