A woman suffered minor burns on Tuesday night from a fire caused by a gas heater in her residence in Dali, while an elderly woman was taken to the First Aid Department as a precaution after a fire in her apartment in Strovolos, according to Fire Department spokesman Andreas Kettis.
As Mr. Kettis reports in his post on X, yesterday at 21:52 Nicosia fire stations responded with two staffed fire engines to a fire in a gas heater in a maid's room in the basement of a house, in the Municipality of Idalion. The fire was extinguished before the Fire Department arrived, by the owner, he reports, noting that an inspection and transfer of the gas cylinder to a safe place was carried out.
The domestic worker suffered minor burns from the fire, Mr. Kettis reports, adding that an ambulance was called and took her to the Nicosia General Hospital's TAEP.
"It appears that the fire was caused by a problem with the operation of the gas heater," he noted.
The temperature caused slight damage to the apartment's equipment and clothing, he says.
In another incident, yesterday at 22:34, four fire trucks, including a telescopic boom vehicle, responded to a fire in a kitchen dining room in an apartment on the 4th floor of an apartment building, in Strovolos, according to Mr. Kettis.
The fire caused extensive damage to kitchen counters and equipment, he says, noting that the entire apartment was also damaged by smoke and heat.
To extinguish the fire, members of the Fire Department used breathing apparatus and water hoses, he adds.
As he reports, the remaining apartments were evacuated with the help of the Police.
The elderly owner was taken to the Emergency Department by a relative as a precaution.
In total, the Fire Department responded to 38 incidents, 24 fires and 14 special services, according to Mr. Kettis.
