A 38-year-old man was taken into custody for possessing a metal detector without the written permission of the Department of Antiquities following a pursuit.

According to ADE Paphos Press Representative and Head of TAE Paphos Michalis Nikolaou, forty-five minutes after midnight the patrol of the Paphos Crime Prevention Ulam spotted a car parked in a kiosk and without registration plates on Archbishop Makarios Avenue in Konia.

When they approached him for control purposes, the driver developed speed with the intention of escaping. He was then pursued and finally stopped. As it became clear from further examinations, it was driven by a 38-year-old man and inside his vehicle was found a device which is a metal detector, the possession of which is prohibited without the written permission of the Department of Antiquities.

The 38-year-old was arrested for a self-inflicted crime. He further refused to submit to a drug test. Mr. Nikolaou noted that refusing to submit to a drug test is also an offense and the 38-year-old is in custody.
