A proposal for the creation of a program to host European citizens during the winter months, in the hotel units and in the rest of the tourist infrastructure of Cyprus, at a particularly low cost, subsidized by the Republic of Cyprus, but also by European resources, was proposed for the winter by the candidate President of Marios Iliadis of the Republic.

In a statement, he says that due to the shortages of natural gas in Europe due to the informal embargo imposed by Russia, and the energy saving measures imposed by one European country after another, it is expected that Europe will go through a nightmare winter, with a natural consequence, a large part of its population (pensioners, patients, children, lower economic strata), being exposed to very serious risks.

In this very difficult moment for our European partners, he said, Cyprus must come in solidarity and help by giving the opportunity to European citizens, to spend - as a temporary way out - a large part of the coming difficult winter, in a country, like yours us, with high temperatures and imperceptible for them, winter. Therefore, he proposed to the government to quickly work out and submit to the European Union, a program of hosting European citizens during the winter months, in our hotel units and in the rest of our tourist infrastructure, at a particularly low cost, also subsidized by the Republic of Cyprus, but also from European resources.

A similar program, which specifically covers British citizens, can be pursued in collaboration with the British government, as a minimum reward for their constant preference for the Cypriot tourist market, he added.
