The Paphos Police arrested two people, aged 29 and 18, yesterday, as part of an investigation into cases involving the offences of obtaining goods by false pretenses, illegal interference and interception of electronic data and other related offences.
Specifically, in the context of an investigation into three complaints by the Nicosia TAE, which concerned the use of bank cards without the authorization of their holders to make purchases via an online application, evidence emerged that the illegal transactions were carried out by two individuals in Paphos.
Following a coordinated operation carried out yesterday in Paphos during the scheduled receipt of goods that had been ordered in the same manner, members of the Investigation and Intelligence Assessment Service proceeded to arrest the two suspects on the spot for the offense of illegal possession of property.
In a subsequent search of their home, four phones, two electronic devices, as well as fourteen bank cards belonging to other persons were located and seized.
Further examinations by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Migration determined that the 29-year-old resides illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and was therefore re-arrested for this specific offense.
The two arrested are expected to appear today before the Nicosia District Court for the purpose of issuing a detention order.
The Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department continues its examinations.
