A 58-year-old man was robbed of thousands of euros - He tried to buy an excavator online

A new case of internet fraud, the Police are investigating, following a complaint by a 58-year-old man, who tried to buy an excavator through an ad he found on the internet.

According to the data under consideration, around the end of February 2023, the complainant found on a social networking platform, an advertisement for the sale of an excavator, for the amount of €5,500. After contacting the purported seller, through that platform, he agreed with him to purchase the excavators in question.

For this purpose, the complainant, following the suggestion of the supposed seller, made three different payments, through a money transfer company, to a specific person, located in a European country. The total amount of payments, paid by the 58-year-old, amounts to €6,180.

After the money was paid, the "seller" stopped all communication with the complainant.

The Financial Crime Investigation Office of TAE Limassol is investigating the case.
